Connect More

Lotus Connection

Regardless of introvert or extrovert in nature, forced social isolation can be daunting for anybody.  The lack of routine and access to distractions which we have grown to take for granted can create havoc on mental health. The new normal where you are required to question every action and watch for every update can easily tip the balance off. While many recommendations and checklists are being poured on social media to combat this challenging phase of corona quarantine, the bottom line is pretty clear, “connect more”.

No matter how, where and when… the need for meaningful connections even for a short period can be lifesaving and these connections needs to happen at three levels. We have to connect with ourselves, nature and people who matter to us.

Make sure that there is at least one deliberate effort to connect at all three levels during a day. For a healthy day, multiple touchpoints are required and below are some ideas.

Connect with nature:

1.       Taking a walk or going for a run

2.       Open the window and take breaths of fresh air

3.       Walk barefoot in the yard

4.       Lay down under the stars

5.       If weather permits, garden!

Connecting with self:

1.       Exercise. Even if it means jumping jacks or stretching by your desk.

2.       Meditate. *Cannot emphasize the value of meditation and conscious breathing in these difficult time.

3.       Start a Journal. Paper or electronic, that hardly matters.

4.       Paint, sing, dance or even some quiet reading can help with the connection within.

Connecting to others:

1.       For remote workers, take a moment to talk about life in general with coworkers.

2.       Call family, far and close to exchange the feelings, fears, and wonders.

3.       Video chat with friends and neighbors to share what’s cooking in the kitchen or elsewhere.

4.       Sharing a little joke and laughter with someone, can bring huge reassurance and positive mind shift.

These are an unprecedented times for most in our generation and there is no doubt we will all come out stronger and talk about these days in bustling bars and cafes for many years to come.

Until that happens, please do whatever you need to do to stay healthy, focused and motivated.

Especially for those struggling with mental and emotional health, take action and reach out.

Connect more! Please.
