A New Birth of Freedom.

A New Birth Of Freedom

“Four Score and seven years ago…..” and I don’t need to say more. Those words resonates with every american citizen.

I wasn’t born in the USA and I did not get to memorize “The Gettysburg Address” in 6th grade but tears rolled, my heart raced and I held my head a little higher today walking through the history here in Gettysburg.

I was moved with the realization that the faces of battle looked exactly the same on either side and it took the same courage for those men to charge in open battlefields knowing this might be the last day of their lives. They all laughed at same jokes, they all had families waiting back home yet they choose to march on hot & humid day. Although, the vision & principles of the leaders behind those armies varied drastically. But who had time for right and wrong? It was a war and one had to fight. Lives were lost on both sides.

The values that were worth fighting for and the values that were non-negotiable eventually sustained.

Another thing that stood out for was the walls of “Silly Remarks” at the museum. It was a crude reminder that nobody is spared a criticism ever, even President Lincoln for his speech that moves us even today.

In 1863 few reputable papers called the ceremony/address of Gettysburg “ludicrous”. Today we know that nothing could have been further from the truth.

Moved, thankful & humbled…On this land of the free & home of the brave!
